Description

The 10″ 10-3061 bandsaw from Rikon is their answer to the question ‘What happens if we take a fully featured 14″ bandsaw and make it portable?’ Typically, smaller bandsaws require bigger sacrifices in features, power and creature comforts. With some, you may spend more time setting up a blade or cleaning up than sawing wood. Not so with the 10-3061.

This bandsaw is loaded with features! Starting with the patented spring-loaded tool-less blade guides, you’ll find setting your guides to within a papers width of the blade a breeze. Tensioning the blade is no longer something that has to be done every time you use the saw with the quick-release tension lever. Set up your tension, saw some wood, then release tension with the quick-release lever until you need to saw again. Clearance is another issue with most 10″ bandsaws typically offering a little over 4″ if you’re lucky. The 10-3061 is designed for a full 5″ of capacity when re-sawing, a perfect height for book matched drawer faces.

Power is derived from a 1/2 horsepower motor with 2 speed settings. High for wood, and low for non-ferrous metals like brass, copper, and aluminum; just make sure you use the right bi-metal blade! The redesigned frame construction makes for a rigid and vibration free operating environment when tackling denser projects or just going for a leisurely saw through some SPF.

Creature comforts include a cast iron table that tilts from 0° to 45°, a larger tensioning knob, an adjustable aluminum rip fence, side windows for blade tracking, and a storage hanger for the fence and tools. The real creature comfort though is a thoughtfully designed 2-1/2″ dust port. Set higher up on the lower frame, closer to the throat where chips and dust are created, and angled at 10°, this dust port actually enables something most don’t; a way to successfully collect dust!

The 10-3061 is a great starter saw; especially if you do not have a lot of space to spare or need something ultra-portable. It’s also a fantastic secondary saw for the woodworker who wants to keep their main saw dedicated to large capacity cutting. In this scenario, the 10-3061 would be for contours, curves, patterns, etc. with 1/8″-1/4″ blades.
