Description

We think Festool’s OF 1400 EQ is the perfect sized router for the shop. There are larger routers and smaller routers, but if you want a router that feels nimble, allowing for positive control for your free-hand edge profiling work, yet still has the power to handle larger jobs like stile & rail door making (accepting an overall bit diameter up to 2-1/2″), then the OF 1400 is a worthy contender for being your single go to router for the shop.

The OF 1400 includes three collet sizes (1/4″, 8 mm, & 1/2″). The 8 mm collet lets you use router bits that come with many popular dovetail and joinery jigs like those made by Leigh Industries. Changing router bits is a snap by simply pushing a shaft locking button and with a single wrench ratcheting the collet nut for tightening and loosening.

Setting the bit cutting depth is uber simple and gives micro-adjust ability with a resolution of .019″ (1/2 mm) increments. The plunge mechanism operates smoothly, reliably and with minimal pressure for predictable and repeatable results.

Both the dust extraction port (above the base) and the chip catcher (below the base) are tool free for installing and removing from the router in just seconds.
